"How to Rock Braces and Glasses" is the pilot episode of How to Rock. It first aired on Nickelodeon in the US on February 4, 2012 at 8:30/7:30c after a brand new Victorious. This episode was viewed by 3.3 million people on it's premiere night.
In this episode, Kacey Simon forges unlikely friendships with the members of the band Gravity 4 featuring Stevie, Zander, Kevin and Nelson after a fall from the popular group. As lead singer, Kacey takes Gravity 5's musical success to new heights while igniting a musical rivalry with The Perfs featuring her former best friends and fellow performers, Molly and Grace.

The Perfs performing
The episode begins with Kacey, Molly and Grace practicing their song "Rules for Being Popular" for the talent show. Kacey cuts in the middle and asks Andy Bartlet why he's chomping on a carrot while they're trying to perform. He says it's lunch time and he's eating the lunch his mommy made him. Kacey tells him that when the most popular group is rehearsing, he should have the decency to sit there and eat in silence. She tells him he should try yoghurt because it's a "quiet" food.
Zander walks over
Kacey sits at a lunch table and says that if they wanna win the talent show, their dance moves will have to be perfect. Molly says of course they'll be perfect because they're the Perfs. Kacey says it's true, they're the Perfs because they have "Perf Power". They then do one of their famous poses. Grace then spots the new kid who just transferred to Brewster High School. Kacey says his name is Zander and that they're lab partners in Science. Zander then walks over to them holding a Ukulele. Kacey asks why he has it and he replies that he's a musician and he put together a killer band. Molly replies that it looks like he put his guitar in the dryer.
Stevie working
We then see Kacey, Molly and Grace at Danny Mangos. As Kacey is putting on her lip gloss, she tells Molly and Grace that as of tomorrow sandals are back in, but flip flops are out. Molly then realizes that Kacey has smeared her lip gloss all over her face and asks if that's something they all should be doing. Kacey looks in the mirror and realizes that something's not right. Grace says that Kacey has been squinting a lot and asks if there's something wrong with her eyes. Kacey says they're fine. Stevie then walks up in her uniform and asks if they would like to sample their new Kiwi Colada. The Perfs say hello to her and call her "Loserberry". Stevie says that they're at the mall all the time and all they do is shop and pose. She asks if they have any hobbies. They say that they like to shop... and pose. Stevie says it must be awesome to be Kacey Simon. She then tells her that she's the most hated girl in school. Kacey get upset and walks out. However, she bumps into a pyramid of pineapple and oranges. Afterwards, Kacey goes to the doctor and is told she needs glasses, and then the dentist, where she is told she needs braces.
"Kacey can't speak."
The next day at school, everyone thinks she cannot talk because she has Laryngitis. However, it's really because she has braces. Spencer Haynes walks into the classroom and tells Kacey that she looks good. Grace says that Spencer is totally into Kacey. Kacey sends Molly a text message saying "Of course he's into me. I'm Kacey Simon." Mr. March then walks in and tells everyone to take their seats. He begins teaching a lesson and asks Kacey a question. Molly interrupts and saying Kacey can't speak because of her Laryngitis and Mr. March continues to teach the lesson. We then see Kacey about to send a note to Spencer, saying that he's so hot. Kacey passes the note to Molly, who passes it to Grace, who passes the note to Andy. Instead of passing the note to Spencer, Andy reads it, and as a result, thinks it's for him. He then winks at Kacey and blows kisses to her.
Gravity 5 performs
Kacey yells "It's not for you, you freak!" and blows her cover story of not being able to talk because of her supposed case of Laryngitis. When Mr. March realizes she was faking, he orders her to come to the front of the class and read Paul Revere's What's Up, Heads Up: The British are Coming!, or else she will fail the class. When she goes up to read, she has to wear her glasses. As she begins to read, she accidentally spits into Spencer's mouth and he calls her a "four-eyed metal-mouth freak". Everyone is shocked to see that she is wearing braces and glasses and begins taking pictures. Kacey then runs out of the class.
We then see Kacey pacing back and forth in the Perf's bathroom. The Perfs tell her that she can no longer be a Perf because she's no longer perfect. Ridiculed by being called the "queen of braces and glasses", Kacey soon meets up with Gravity 4 in their hangout. At first the band is disgusted by Kacey's Perf singing, but when she shows her natural talent, they decide to have her hang out with them. She also learns of their rivalry with the Perfs and they're also outsiders like her.
The next day, Kacey joins Gravity 4 at lunch and helps them with their talent show act. She is soon approached by the Perfs, with Molly as the new leader, where Molly seems apologizes for kicking her out of the group and want her to rejoin, but under the condition she poses as the school mascot for their act. Kacey reluctantly agrees, and Gravity 4 shuns her for her betrayal.
The night of the talent show arrives, and Kacey is forced to dress in a viking suit for the Perfs' act. Eventually, Kacey soon overhears Molly's true motives for only using Kacey to win first prize. Just before the Perfs we're about to go on, Kacey stuns Molly and Grace by taking off her Viking head and revealing she's no longer wearing braces and glasses. Kacey explained earlier she went to get her braces loosened and now has to wear a night brace, and switched her glasses for contact lenses. She then realizes that the Perfs weren't her real friends and Molly only liked her because she was perfect. Kacey declares the Perfs are not her friends and leaves them. She returns to Gravity 4 and apologizes for her betrayal, and forms a new friendship with them. They accept her for who she is and let her become the lead singer of their band, with Kacey giving the condition they change the band's name. The band then performs "Only You Can Be You" at the talent show with Kacey renaming the band Gravity 5.
After their performance, the Perfs, especially Molly, are stunned by Kacey's talent. While Grace suggests giving up all nuisance and joining Gravity 5, Molly ends by vowing, "We're gonna take down Kacey Simon."

Goofs[]
- When Kacey was wondering why the Perfs were making papers of her as "The Queen of Braces and Glasses" she was holding a paper, but when the whole school were taking photos of her the paper was gone.
- There's no reason why Kacey couldn't have gotten glasses that made her look attractive, rather than unpleasant, as eye doctors will typically allow their patients to choose what their glasses look like.
- Kacey had to wear a night brace but she never felt the pain of not wearing them.
- Even though Kacey comments that she doesn't need glasses to sing (but she needs glasses to see), she is not seen wearing glasses in almost all future episodes.
